SOME STUFF ABOUT MATT MCG.

Beginning in 2013, I’ve had the good fortune of working with Joel Hodgson, creator of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” on a vast variety of projects related to the MST3K brand.

I got my start writing and puppeteering Tom Servo (silently) in the 2013 MST3K Turkey Day Marathon on YouTube. Since then I’ve worked on a number of other Turkey Day Marathons, from writing, to producing, to directing, and even performing on camera.

In 2016, I was hired by Joel’s company, Alternaversal, to be a writer and producer on the revival of MST3K. We released two seasons on Netflix (2016’s “The Return,” and 2018’s “The Gauntlet,” respectively), and in 2021, we released our third and fully independent season on our custom streaming site, the Gizmoplex. It’s in this season that I had the honor of directing the holiday-themed season finale, “The Christmas Dragon.”

Along with the TV series, I also co-wrote and co-produced all of the nation-wide MST3K LIVE tours (“The ‘Watch Out for Snakes!’ Tour,” “The 30th Anniversary Tour,” “The Great Cheesy Movie Circus Tour,” and “The Time Bubble Tour”). I also contributed a fair amount of writing to the six-issue “Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Comic,” published by Dark Horse Comics.

Aside from MST3K, I’ve also written an episode of “Moot” for Cinevore Studios, and I performed the character Jasper in the wacked-out punk rock fever dream, “Wacky Live,” on YouTube.

Every summer, I can be found performing the role of Dr. Son of Dr. Frank N. Stone at the Colonial Theatre’s Blobfest in Phoenixville, PA. And if I’m not doing that, I’m probably illustrating a poster for one of their cult/horror showings. And if I’m not doing that, I’m sitting in their balcony with a bag of popcorn.
